A new way for saccharide analysis

Almost all kind of food containing the sugar. Therefore, differential sugar profilings play essential roles in energy intake and development of diseases when lose control in regulation of foods. However, in currently sugar analysis isn't satisfied due to its difficult and inconvenient processing. In addition, the compositional and structural analysis of saccharides not only for food industry but also for medicinal herbs, fungi, bacteria and cell membrane as a global research theme for scientists.

In people's livelihood, more and more countries made a law for sugar tax (the tax rate is based on sugar load in per 100 mL drink). The reason is excessive intake of sugar could induce chronic diseases. Taiwan Food & Drug Administration (TFDA) also proposes to regulate some of common sugars (fructose, sucrose, glucose, galactose, lactose and maltose) as well as free sugar in foods. The products of beverages and foods must label the amounts of sugars as shown in declaration of the “Nutrition Facts Panel” since August 2015.

The aim of our products (sugar labeling kits and sugar-BIM standards) provided a suitable method to measure the sugar in food by aldo-BIM derivatization, in terms of facile sample handling and high-yielding, so that the detection sensitivity can be significantly improved. Our analytical technology can be applied to sugar inspection in food industry and glycan connected medical examination in many diseases.
