InnoVEX ESG Forum Aims to Leverage AI for Sustainability

In an effort to promote sustainability and net zero, one of the main topics of this year's InnoVEX 2024 will be Green Technology. As one of the organizers of InnoVEX, Taipei Computer Association (TCA) stated that the Leveraging AI to Accelerate Sustainable Future Opportunities forum will be held on June 7, 2024 10:00 – 12:00 (GMT+8).
Climate change has become one of the most important global trends as it will affect virtually every aspect of human life and nature. With rising global temperature and extreme weather patterns; immediate actions including decarbonization, energy transition, and embracing the circular economy are necessary. However, this is not the responsibility of a single individual or company, but require cooperation across industries and boundaries. As such, the forum will invite speakers from various industries who will share their insights on ESG and sustainability trends.
The confirmed speeches in the forum include:
- Digital with Purpose to Deliver ESG Solutions with Impact by Dr. Niven Huang, Managing Director, KPMG Sustainability Consulting Co., Ltd. in Taiwan
KPMG in Taiwan was founded in 1952 and is one of the oldest internationally affiliated accounting firms in Taiwan.
Dr. Niven Huang is a pioneer in Taiwan for CSR, ESG, sustainability reporting, corporate sustainability strategy, sustainable finance and carbon management. He is the recently retired Managing Director of KPMG Sustainability Consulting Co., Ltd., in Taiwan since July of 2013. He was appointed to be the Regional Leader of KPMG Sustainability Services in Asia Pacific since March of 2018 and was the KPMG ASPAC ESG Leader from 2022-2023.
The speech will discuss how ESG has become a necessity as the world now faces pressing sustainability risks. Both corporations and startups can explore the possibilities of leveraging technology for a systematic digital transformation; especially as AI can be utilized to provide insights that create real impact for sustainable development goals (SDGs). - Sustainable Semiconductor Solutions for AI Compute by Dr. Raymond Chik, Co-founder, Non-executive Director & Chair of the Board, Untether AI
Untether AI was founded in 2018 with a mission to break AI out of data centers and make it available all the way to the network edge. Untether AI developed a unique at-memory architecture for deep learning that places the processing next to the memory – minimizing data movement and power consumption.
Dr. Raymond Chik has co-founded several semiconductor startups, including Untether AI, which focuses on AI HW compute acceleration. He is a globally active contributor to the startup ecosystem, serving on Hardtech Investor Network's Advisory Board, an Entrepreneur In Residence at the ventureLAB, a venture partner at Network VC, as well as the founding chair of the Toronto IEEE Solid-State Circuits Chapter. - Innovation Challenges and Opportunities for Sustainable AI Computing by Sengmeng Koo, Senior Deputy Director and Head of LearnAI, AI Singapore®
AI Singapore is a national programme supported by the National Research Foundation and hosted by the National University of Singapore.
Sengmeng Koo is a seasoned public sector professional in AI certification and AI standardization efforts. Currently serving as the Head of LearnAI at AI Singapore, he and his team spearhead the development and implementation of Generational AI Capability Development programs.
Mr. Koo's speech will discuss the issues of energy consumption and carbon footprint associated with AI development and deployment that have skyrocketed as AI models become increasingly complex and demand more computational power. With new demands for the development and adoption of more green practices, the tech industry will have to foster a stronger culture of sustainability. - Don't Stop Until Zero by Margarita Peker, General Manager, Uber Taiwan
Uber has committed to becoming a fully electric, zero-emission platform by 2040, with 100% of rides and deliveries taking place in zero-emission vehicles.
Margarita Peker joined Uber in 2017, and has taken up the role of General Manager of Uber Taiwan in 2023. Margarita has also taken on positions within Uber's global leadership team for the Uber One membership program, alongside other international customer engagement programs. She was named in Australia and the USA's 30 Under 30 awards for the marketing industry, and spent two years as a trustee of the Awesome Foundation.
Ms. Peker will share what would be necessary for Uber to electrify the world's largest mobility and delivery platform, shifting over 7 million drivers and delivery people to more sustainable vehicles by 2040 whilst reducing all unnecessary plastic waste from deliveries by 2030.
More speakers will be announced as InnoVEX 2024 approaches and details are confirmed. By sharing their expertise and real-world case studies, the speakers hope to encourage deeper collaboration between industry players and drive impactful change across the entire supply chain. The theme of Earth Day 2024 is Planet vs Plastics with the goal of reduce plastic production by 60%. Continuing last year's commitment of "Dream Big, Go Green", InnoVEX 2024 aims to further reduce carbon emission and waste by significantly reducing the supply of disposable water bottles as well as removing excess packaging and adopting more environmentally friendly materials for venue decorations. InnoVEX will also once again collaborate with the convenience store chain, FamilyMart to launch number of sustainability focused events and activities to jointly advocate for a greener future.
InnoVEX 2024 will also organize an exhibitor ESG certification to help promote sustainability in the event. Exhibitors that comply with RE100/ ISO 14064 greenhouse gases or other relevant certifications will be able to display the "ESG GO" sign at their booth to also provide an overview of sustainability trends and business opportunities made possible in ESG.

As the special startup focused event of COMPUTEX, InnoVEX 2024 will be held concurrently with COMPUTEX 2024. The event will focus on 4 major topics: Semiconductor Applications, AI, Smart Mobility, and Green Tech. In total, over 300 startups from 20 countries and regions will join InnoVEX 2024. This year, InnoVEX will feature speakers from major global tech companies including Renesas, PSMC, and more.
